Our History
With his exceptional talent, knowledge, experience and passion for tool design and plastic injection moldings, Mr. Philip Choi founded Tontec in Hong Kong in 1982 to serve customers who had requirements for high-quality plastic injection molds and moldings. Over the last three decades, our company has built a good reputation in the industry and expanded from a small tool maker and molder to a multi-national company with over 4000 employees worldwide.
In 1993, we relocated our production facilities from Hong Kong to Shenzhen in order to take advantages of the lower manufacturing costs in Mainland China. Given the enhanced cost effectiveness, the relocation to Shenzhen enabled us to export to the global market at a very competitive price while enjoying rapid growth in exports backed by the economic growth of China.
In 2003, we built a new factory in Suzhou to accommodate the rising demand for molds and moldings resulting from the growth of the domestic market in China. It was a good strategic move, as the Suzhou factory has grown to become the biggest production facility of Tontec group.
During the period from 2010 to 2015, we built 3 more factories in China, one each in Tianjin, Wuhan Hubei and Maanshan Anhui respectively. With these three lately added manufacturing locations in China, we have been able to stay closer to our customers and provide them with better costs and services.
In January 2015, we formed a joint venture with Thomas Group in France. Through the joint venture, we have extended the production and development into Europe, North Africa and North America.
In 2018, we opened a factory in Chonburi of Thailand in order to serve customers better in the South East Asia region.
In September 2020, we established a new factory in Chengdu to further expand and strengthen our footprint coverage in China.
In 2023, we built a new factory in Huizhou to increase the production capacity in the southern part of China.
